Wanderings for October 31, 2012

Elections.  Candidates.  Issues.  Veracity.  Truth.  Promises.  Some of the myriad words that are percussively assaulting our ears day and night.  What do we do with them?  Well…

I guess we have several choices.  We can turn off our hearing aids, radios, televisions, Tablets or IPhones; we can choose which set of words have value to us; we can base our choice on knowledge of the candidate or speaker.  Do we know his or her character from personal experience, or do we judge based only on his or her words?  I find it difficult to not be cynical, for even followers of Jesus see things through singular points of view.

To participate in governing we need to vote.  I’m not going to tell you how to choose and how to vote.  However, there are some principles found in Deuteronomy 17:14 – 20 that apply to king, president or governor.  More reasons to exercise caution in picking a candidate can be located in Romans 12:1 – 7 and in Titus 3:1.   it sort of gets personal when we see how God sets it up.

Personally, I’m thankful to God that we have as much freedom in this country to choose as we do.
