Dwell….that’s a word to dwell on. You can camp on it, live in it, rest in it, or at the very least, have confidence in it.
The monthly visit to “The Well” can sort of relate. We wrote about The Well a few weeks ago, if you remember. Dwell has some of the same aspects…refreshment, resources, that sort of thing, but dwell is one of those places that give you a settled feeling; you know, kinda like you’re home.
Drag out your Tablet, or IPad, or if you like to turn pages, grab your Bible off the shelf, knock off the dust and turn to Psalm 91, verse one, to start. I kind of like the solidity of the King James Version for this one, by the way.
“He that dwelleth (or dwells) in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”.
Need security? There’s a place to hide, but better than that, there’s a place to “abide” while you recover from a hurt, while you try to bring frazzled feelings together, or just escape and catch your breath. Jesus even took a break when he needed it.
Verse 2 even goes a little deeper.
“…the Lord is my refuge and my fortress…”
Solid, strong, impregnable, able to take a pounding for my safekeeping.
I’ll stop here, but you get the idea. The rest of the chapter is a diary and recommendation of one who took advantage of a place to dwell, a place to go back to, a place each of us needs.
