Thank you so much to those of you who chose to worship with us this past Easter Sunday. It was an amazing blessing to be with my Emmanuel family celebrating the resurrection power that our great God displays in our lives! I wanted to briefly share a story of small providence.
The week of Easter I was stressed out.
I knew that it was an important week and that music would be a big part of it. I was feeling the pressure when considering our service order- which songs we would sing, and what about the general flow the morning?! On top of that we were including a lot of scripture within the worship set, so picking songs carried extra weight. I had planned on having the service order finalized early in the week to allow lots of time for it to soak in for our worship band. However, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night I couldn’t commit. I was afraid that I was making the wrong choices. In fact, it wasn’t until Saturday evening that I (by force, obviously) sat down to really hash out these details. It was here that I remembered a song that Katie Clum had lead 2 weeks previous titled “Dwell”. I read over the lyrics and it seemed like a good fit, so I did my usual thing and did a quick youtube.com search on the song to gather some inspiration.
The first one that popped up seemed like the right song so I clicked on it. In the video, it was obvious that it had been filmed at least a few years back. My immediate though was the hit the “back” button to look for something more “modern”. However as soon as the lead singer started in, I was drawn in. By the end of the song I was moved (and fairly emotional). You see, I at judging the value of this arrangement on unjust and unfair grounds.
As I was listening, my fiance Alexie leaned in to listen. She commented that she loved this song, and that her old church back in Colorado used to do it all the time. She went on to comment that this sounded just like that band at her old church. Eventually she look closer at the screen and exclaimed, “That IS my old church! I remember that worship leader!”
So, I took it as a sign and decided to do the song on Easter Sunday. Praise the Lord for giving us the inspiration we need, when we need it.
Thanks for reading!
