Shelter News 16

There has been a rash of employment happening at the Phinney Ridge Winter Men’s shelter. We have already “lost” men to employment though out the winter, and there are a couple of the men who have been working hard all along and stay with us. But this week Mario the younger got accepted into Job Core which means he will have a place to live, a job, and get his GED. He’s a happy young man.

And then Philly got a new job with a catering/meal delivery company in West Seattle run by none other than Julie McCoy who many of you remember from your Love Boat watching days as the beautiful ship hostess. Who didn’t have a crush on her? As Philly tells it, “I was working on the meal assembly line next to an “older” good looking woman and it dawned on me that she was Julie McCoy from The Love Boat.” Julie owns the company and works there two days a week. What a trip. Nice lady.

And then there’s Kevin. He’s been with us about a month. He got what he considers to be a perfect job for him at Kells Irish Pub and Restaurant. Kevin has a lot of experience with restaurant work at many levels and did I mention he’s Irish. We were going to do March Madness brackets together, but he’s working so hard I’ve hardly seen him.

I’ll soon be out of a job if this keeps up.

I am taking Friday and Saturday off to take in some March Madness with my sons in Portland. Drop in any time and say hi to the men while I’m gone, or when I’m back. God bless you.

I think I feel the Madness creeping in. I keep hearing buzzers and a sound like balls bouncing and shoes squeaking on a clean floor. What can it mean?
