Shake the dust from Anis Mojgani on Vimeo.

Hi Emmanuel,

Josh Phillips here. I wanted to take a moment from all the church updates I give and share a bit of myself with you all. Many of you know that I was able to travel to New York City last week to celebrate my birthday with my sister. I had a great time and could not imagine celebrating my birthday a better way. One of the highlights for me was a concert I was able to attend my first night in NY. An organization called To Write Love on Her Arms hosted a concert they’ve titled Heavy and Light. The organization tries to raise awareness and remove the taboo surrounding depression and self-harm. Their belief is that if people felt free to share their struggles in those areas with more people, they could would receive help that was quick and lasting in its healing. While I personally haven’t struggled with such issues, I was excited for the musicians and artists they recruited for their show and to be made more aware of such struggles myself.

One of my favorite poets, Anis Mojgani, was present at the show and shared a couple of his poems. I’m always drawn to the way he expresses himself when I listen to his poetry and his words are often encouraging to those struggling with all sorts of problems. So I share one of his poems above that I’ve always enjoyed and I hope you do too! I hope that you’ll take a couple moments to pray and think about those who are struggling right now and possibly even reach out to someone near you.

Thank you for reading,

Josh Phillips
