Homeless shelter

Shelter News 12
It’s been another quiet week at the Phinney Ridge Men’s Winter Shelter. Some interesting donations have come in. One from a thoughtful guest who clipped an article from the Times about “Solving the homeless puzzle” in Seattle. Dean Markuly from S. U. discussed the complications of the growing problem then said “However, I think our biggest challenge to this problem is something more fundamental: For the most of us, homelessness isn’t personal enough.”
Another donation to me personally was a postcard of the aircraft carrier Yorktown. One of our guests knows that I have an interest in that WW2 ship because my step father served on her during the battle of Midway. Thank you Scott.
Somehow we ran short of desserts this week. A well timed thanks to our guest Rick for bringing in some of Betty Crocker’s Super Moist cake and brownie mixes. We already had the eggs thanks to Coach Linda from the girls basketball team which loves to practice in our gym. Good coach, excellent team. She keeps chickens for the eggs, mostly.
There are some new faces in the Shelter. We range in age from 18 to 66 and are currently full, but there always seems to be some turnover. If God sends you someone in need tell them to show up at our door at the NE corner of Emmanuel Church at 7:30 and at least get on the waiting list. And there might be a spot, or at least some Super Moist Betty Crocker and a blanket.
