Shelter News 14
Big news for such a quiet week at the Phinney Ridge Winter Men’s Shelter. The Shelter will extend to the end of April. I think it was quiet because more of the men have jobs and are quite tired, even exhausted, by the time they get back home to the Shelter. Some need that extra month to save up some money and get back on their feet.
Wednesday evening was memorable by all accounts. A new record in the volunteers/guests ratio was set by the Ballard Life Group from the Mosaic Church. It was reported that 22 servers swarmed in on the Shelter for about two and a half hours, served a variety of entrees and desserts, had many lively conversations with the men, and then vanished. “It was the strangest thing”, one man said. “It all went quiet.” Thank you Ballard LG.
On a serious note, this upcoming week is St. Patrick’s Day. I’m sure he was a fine saint, but his day has turned into a “party” day. I think you know what that means. Pray like the old song says, “I heard the voice of Jesus say, Satan your kingdom must come down”.
Another month of service means there are still plenty of spots to serve. You are very welcome to serve even if it is just one night. The men really appreciate it. One man said this week that coming back to this shelter is something he looked forward to all day.
