Homeless shelter
Shelter News 6
It has been an eventful week The Phinney Ridge Men’s Shelter. One event which was not good seemed to cause another event which was very good. Or, at least the bad event made it obvious that a change had to be made. The bad event was that a man lost his temper and threatened another man which we do not allow in the Shelter. It did not come to blows, but the language was “thick” and everyone saw that this man was clearly in the wrong, including his best friend, who decided that night that he had had enough of the homeless life and “hanging out with drunks” as he put it. So Rick decided to enroll in the UGM’s two year rehab program and is hopefully finding a new life off the street. I say “hopefully” because we know that there are many pitfalls and setbacks in this life and Rick needs God’s help, and ours. This is really good news, and exactly what we pray for with the men God sends us. All three of the UGM men who staff our Shelter have been through this program are experiencing success in their lives.
On another note, if you have checked the volunteer schedule for PRWS, you will notice the return of Richard of pork shoulder roast fame. I can’t be there, but if his service is anything like the last it should prove to be one of those “it’s too good to be true” events. I hope there are leftovers. Richard is from The Capitol Hill Community Church.
There are still plenty of openings for service. I’d be glad to serve with any who are willing.
Ben Paul
