Shelter News 8
This week at The Phinney Ridge Winter Men’s Shelter we finally reached the somewhat mystical ratio of 20 guests and 20 volunteers thanks to Daniel N. and his UW Life Group. That was Wednesday evening. Good food, good clean-up, and plenty of conversation. The men said it was fun. It was big David’s last night at the Shelter. David has a house sitting gig he does every year in the Fremont area. He probably won’t like me saying it, but I see a certain softening of spirit in David this year. That is a sign of health. He said he doesn’t want to come back to the Shelter next year, and was pretty sure he won’t. Then he thanked us.
Of course this 20 on 20 ratio was only for one night. The one or two on twenty ratio prevailed on four of the other nights. Nurse Christa brought some help and pasta from her Life Group on Monday night. The men are pretty sure she is at least part angel.
We had a visit from our new pastor at Emmanuel, Bobby Z Zurinsky (I’m trying out some nicknames) on Tuesday. I think he picked up some good pulpit humor from Tim H. Tim is on his third battle with cancer and is at the point now where he just laughs at pretty much everything. He says he is thankful to God for being alive. I like Tim.
We do expect some of the Seahawks to visit and volunteer in The Shelter. (They have been very supportive to UGM.) But first we’ll let them Take Care Of Business. Lord willing of course and in a Christian way.
