Shelter News Eight

Shelter News Eight

Jan 27, 2016 | Posted by Emmanuel | Announcements |

There is a small grocery store just down Fremont Ave. a bit. Market Time has been giving us their leftover daily sandwiches, jo jo’s, pizzas, salads of every sort, wraps, and many things I don’t really know what they are, for the whole time we’ve had the Men’s Shelter on Phinney ridge. We are in our fourth year and the sandwich count is in the thousands. Market Time remodeled their store this year. It looks good and still keeps that small corner grocery store/deli look and feel. I hope they stay in business forever. This week they were very generous. I had a pastrami dip sandwich myself. Very good.

On a Biblical note, there is a Bible study hour planned to begin this week or the next in the old Port & Anchor starting at 7pm for men staying in the Shelter. I think there is a sign-up sheet, see Daniel N.

Volunteers/servers can still get good seats on the schedule although it is beginning to fill up again. Thank you. I suggest you get a five game package while you can. That way you can get to know the players before it’s too late, and that Spring sunshine begins to warm our hearts and kill the mold under our…everywhere.

On a political note, the mayor of this fair city is giving a speech tonight, 730 I think, on the homeless emergency in our city and around the country. I think I will miss it as I get to serve in our own Men’s Shelter tonight. Governments are supposed to be set up for the betterment and welfare of its citizens, and our city government does do some of this in a red taped bureaucratic slow moving regulated sort of way. The Christian Church, on the other hand, views this homeless emergency as an open door for ministry as their leader (that would be Jesus) has asked them to do. Do you ever wonder if you are truly a follower of Jesus? Love God and love your neighbor as yourself. What am I, sheep or goat? I’ll bet the mayor doesn’t mention Jesus. He sometimes mentions The Union Gospel Mission. And I think he is well aware that it is a Christian ministry. The Mission is run by people who love because they were first loved by Jesus. Well, we haven’t quite got that perfected yet, but it is coming, He’s coming.

That will be News from the Men’s Shelter on Phinney Ridge.
