Shelter News Three
It’s about as rainy as it gets on Phinney Ridge. Hanging wet clothes up in boiler room is not a long term solution. We could use a dryer. Installed.
But the food was hot and the beds are warm. I am much relieved to have servers Sarah, and Chaney, and others back from their mission trip to India. Her visit to the Shelter last night really livened things up with the stories of spreading the Gospel in foreign lands.
I get to meet a lot of new people overseeing the kitchen for the Shelter. Our neighbors have been very supportive this year and several of them have made donations and stopped by to serve or just see what is going on with homeless men in Seattle. I feel fortunate this week to have met a neighbor who knew what to do with oysters. I received a donation of fresh oysters a week ago and I didn’t know what to do with them. I’ve led a sheltered life. I have never shucked an oyster. I still haven’t because this man was very proficient at shucking, and putting together an oyster stew right on the spot. We already had everything we needed in the kitchen. We gave it a long simmer and ate it the next night.
This coming week I am looking forward to Emmanuel’s Pastor Bob Zurinsky coming to cook and serve on Thursday. The cooking is not a competition Bob, but….
I am also looking forward to The Yuletide Sessions (third annual) this Saturday night at 7. We in the Shelter are hoping to make it. Proceeds go to the Shelter.
That’s the news from The Men’s Shelter on Phinney Ridge.
