The Wanderer’s Note to EBC Missionaries
While neither retirement plans nor retirement villages (except for the New Jerusalem) are prominently mentioned in Scripture, I’m sure many of you know the word. Call it retirement or job reassignment or whatever, I’ve concluded that December 1, 2011 will mark the day I retire as Missions Coordinator for Emmanuel Bible Church. My desire, though, is to continue some personal correspondence with each of you. After all, you’ve been part of the family for too many years to stop talking with you now.
We do not expect the thread of missions to be lost at Emmanuel, even though in its rebirth-replanting stage it is unable to maintain the missions activity it once did. Emmanuel will be focusing on becoming more familiar with, and more active in the community surrounding the church. We have found that many in the neighborhood have no idea what this building houses.
Classrooms in the gym building are now home to a cooperative school that has been within three blocks of EBC for many years; rooms in the west side of that building now house the offices of a small evangelical church that meets on Queen Anne Hill. The gym is being used for community basketball, and other occasional groups. The 49th St. house now is the home of the director of Community Dinners, an outreach ministry under the Assemblies of God, that is becoming regionally and nationally known. Students from Seattle Pacific University are involved in Emmanuel’s staff and its music ministry. Oh, and the 50th St. house is preparing to become the parsonage. www.ebcseattle.org is being redesigned for more attractive exposure. In all, God’s hand in preparing EBC for a new ministry seems obvious as things come together.
Continue to pray for Jesus Christ to be seen and glorified as Emmanuel’s ministry unfolds.
Thanks,
Norm Dalke
