I learned a new word today…Missional.

I’m late getting on the bandwagon, I guess, and I’m finding out that it’s more than a current buzzword.  it bears a relationship to supplying a cup of cold water, and more, maybe even a bucketful – including  the bucket!  It seems to be related to a personal “missions-living” attitude.

It’s a gift of love.  it’s a gift given in love.  It’s a gift or help given with no expectation of getting something in return.  It’s a gift to meet a need.  It may mean giving again…and again.  It’s being the Good Samaritan.  Think of it as an opportunity for someone to see Jesus wearing your face.

In Emmanuel’s future it may mean washing someone’s car; it may mean being barista in a coffee bar in a community-accessible part of the building.  It could mean a room or rooms set up as an art gallery for local artists, or a computer workshop for seniors, or…the list is endless.

As Randy suggests, there is a big toolbox available for living out our faith in the one we claim as savior, redeemer, liberator.   What tool fits in your hand?

PS:  Has anyone gone to visit Florence Carlson lately?
