Newtown, Connecticut. I’m not sure any of us were untouched by the news of this weekend. Some of us show it less than others, but everyone had to have felt the loss. If you are a parent you know what I mean.
Before we go any farther, I am no psychologist, psychiatrist, or even a therapist. My guesses are my own.
Will it happen again? Probably. Again in a place that is least anticipated. Why will it happen again? I don’t have any pat answers. Why did Cain kill Abel? He didn’t have any assault rifle, or handgun. We don’t know what he used. It doesn’t matter.
One thing I know is that the victims were all defenseless. If the person making the assault expects to make a name for himself, it is then the lowest of the low. What bravery in this? They often self-destruct, removing themselves from having to face justice here on this earth. But…the Bible says there will be judgment.
A solution? No one even seems to know what precipitated the moments of terror and resulting sorrow at Sandy Hook School, so where does one start looking for a solution. There are more needs out there than there is help available.
We know from experience that believing in Jesus Christ can result in becoming a new person. However, how does one hear without someone to tell.
What CAN we do? Certainly we can pray for God’s grace and peace to fill the hearts of the bereaved. We can, if so led, write letters of condolence. We can be open to encouraging someone who is lonely, feed someone who is hungry, visit someone in hospital…all scripturally OK.
