Walk.  Stand.  Sit.  Sound familiar?  Daily stuff, right?  They’re all action words, verbs.  They’ve got a lot of terms that modify each of them..  How do we use them?  How do we personally choose their use?

Walking, for instance.  We walk to get from point A to point B.  We walk to exercise our legs.  We walk by ourselves or we walk with others.  Note that each of the other verbs, stand and sit, we can do with others as well, although they’re not much for physical exercise.

It’s interesting that in Psalm 1, the writer gives us a heads up on use of these terms.  In short, who do you hang with?  Who are your walking, standing, and sitting companions?  What’s the payoff?

Don’t get me wrong, there’s  a big difference between hanging with and being identified with those who are mean spirited, or being with or supporting someone with real needs.  There are those who are grieving that need someone to just walk with them; there are those who need a friend to stand with them as they face catastrophe; there are those who need us to sit with them in hospital and hold their hand.

Choose your usage.  Take another look at Psalm 1.  It’s wisdom literature, no charge.
