Mimi Guarino: IT Intern
Hello Emmanuel folks!
Starting something is always a little tricky, isn’t it? Especially when you’re writing something, figuring out how to start is often the hardest part. Do you begin with a witty bout of wordplay? Or perhaps you start with a heartfelt statement of thanks to set a good mood? I wasn’t really sure, so I ended up starting this little blog blurb with honesty.
So, with that I say, hello people of Emmanuel, my name is Mimi. I’m twenty-two years old, I just graduated from college, I’m looking to make a life here in Seattle, and I’ll be your IT Intern.
Now you might be looking at that title and wondering, IT Intern? That’s an awfully strange title. It’s true, that title doesn’t exactly summarize what I do very well, but it’s the best we could come up with. So to shed some light on what I hope to do for all of you, let me dive into that title and explain my jobs and responsibilities in a bit more detail.
Essentially, I’m the techie girl for the church. I’ll be here to maintain websites, expand our tech, take on new projects, manage the tech side of service, and chew bubblegum (and I’m all out of bubblegum….). It might sound a bit vague, because honestly my job is a bit vague at this point! As time goes on, we’ll probably fall into more of a regular pattern, and with time my big job points will shine through!
But in the meantime, I can point your attention to some cool projects that I’ve been working on.
First of all, there are lots of neat goodies on the website that you should know about! I’m sure you all reading this know about them (after all, you have to know about the website to be reading this blog), but if you know anyone else in the church who is not up to date, you can tell them what I’m about to say! Our website is always growing. We recently added the blog section that you’re viewing right now, and soon we’ll add a section of the webpage dedicated to the new Counseling center. We’ve also got vlogs (video blogs) going up every week, and regular news updates for events. Finally, we’re also expanding out to Facebook and Twitter, so head to the bottom of the page if you want to be even MORE tuned in to all the Emmanuel shenanigans that go on.
I’ve also been coming to services and operating the laptop! So if you noticed any wonky transitions in the song slides, that was my fault and I apologize. It might seem like an easy job but the difficulty sneaks up on you! There’s always that one song that throws you for a loop. Goodness, I’m painting a bleak picture of operating the laptop, aren’t I? I actually really enjoy it, and it’s pretty much a guarantee that whenever you see me back there, I’m having a great time.
And… for now, that’s all I’ve got going on! Soon we’re going to work on expanding the church’s network downstairs so that it will be available in the future café, but the details of that whole arrangement are sketchy at best. It’s another one of those things that will become more final as time passes. I’m really excited for all the growth that’s going to happen down in that area, and I’m even more excited that I get to be a part of it!
Hm, it seems like I’m running out of things to say. I’m sorry if this blog post became a little meander, sometimes that happens when I sit down to type out my thoughts. But I hope you enjoyed it (at least a little) and it gave you a better idea of stuff that’s coming in the future of Emmanuel! This church community is really something special, and I feel so blessed that God has guided me down a path that has led me to all of you. I hope to continue to serve you all, and I can’t wait to see all of you at church on Sunday! Until then, stay safe, and I hope you all have a great week.
